Botox Injections for TMJ
BOTOX® is used to treat Facial and TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) and associated jaw tension and pain. When injected into specific facial muscles affected with soreness and discomfort, BOTOX® relieves TMJ and jaw tension for many patients. The injections often eliminate headaches resulting from teeth grinding, and in cases of severe stress, BOTOX® can even minimize lockjaw.
How does Botox relieve facial pain, TMJ pain and jaw tension?
BOTOX® functions by weakening muscles that it is injected into. Only the areas or muscles injected with Botulinum Toxin will be “relaxed.” Botulinum Toxin treatment for TMJ therapy will not affect anywhere else in your body. The injections are mainly in the masseter and temporalis muscles.

Botox works by temporarily blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles, causing them to relax. This can help to reduce muscle tension and pain in the jaw, face, and neck.Alleviate headaches
TMJ disorders can often cause headaches, and Botox can help to reduce the frequency and severity of these headaches.Improve jaw function
By relaxing the muscles around the jaw, Botox can improve jaw function and make it easier to chew, speak, and yawn.Reduce grinding and clenching
Botox can also help to reduce teeth grinding and clenching, which can contribute to TMJ pain.Questions regarding Botox Injections for TMJ
